Vietnam imposes new blogging restrictions

The rules ban any posts that undermine national security incite violence or crime disclose state secrets or include inaccurate information that could damage the reputation of individuals and organizations according to a copy of the regulations obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press. The rules which were approved Dec. 18 attempt to rein in Vietnam’s booming blogosphere. It has become an alternative source of news for many in the communist country where the media is state-controlled.

Ebony Sampson called one of her oldest friends Jaki Grier and jokingly asked her if she had $10000. Jaki told her "Sure just let me open up my invisible purse!" But then Grier got an idea. A self-described geek Grier started blogging years ago. Since then she’s contributed to a magazine’s Web site and regularly posts thoughts and life happenings on her LiveJournal page. So she published Ebony and Daniel’s story along with a link where people could make a donation. At the most Jaki thought she could raise enough money to help the Sampsons pay a security deposit on an apartment after their home was auctioned. But donations started pouring in.

John Waire is talking about a growing problem in the city homelessness. He’s out on a one man crusade to bring awareness to the issue. He’s doing it through his lense and on his blog "Baltimore Drive By’s". n the blog Waire documents the pictures he takes everyday of all the homeless people he passes each day during his commute from his home in Towson to his downtown office. "I see a lot of people who are begging for money I see other people who aren’t begging for money who are shivering in corners with blankets that are looking to stay warm" said Waire. Waire believes the city could do more to help put an end to homelessness. "I’m seeing more and more on the streets and that’s just from my perspective but there’s a lot of people out there.
